Overview

If you are a nature lover and wish to learn about the environment during your days under the sun then this unique day trip is made for you! Altersail is the only company that offers this kind of experience and we would be honoured to share it with you! You will soon realise that through this unique experience you will be contributing to the study of marine life in the Mediterranean!

This daily route is specifically planned to reach places that have special significance for the monitoring of marine life around Crete.

Let’s take this remote journey, far from mainstream routes, which you will definitely not find in commercial travel guides.

Sailing is the ideal way to reach these areas in an eco-friendly way, with minimal environmental impact.

We approach the selected sites navigating with sails only, being extra careful on where to set anchor to ensure minimum disturbance of the marine life.

A certified instructor will be aboard to introduce you to the recognition of different species of marine organisms and their attributes.

While in the water, you will be aided by a waterproof identification guide, which you are free to keep after the activity; on it, you will be able to record the species you observed!

Back on deck, you will be encouraged to register your findings in the dedicated online database and awarded your personal membership card, establishing your valued contribution to scientific research!

Important Note

ALTERSAIL is a qualified partner of the research project COMBER (Citizensnetwork for the Observation of Marine BiodivERsity), conducted by the Hellenic Center for Marine Research. COMBER aims to extract information about marine life through observations and recordings made by citizen-scientists.
